Said the Whale in Studio
So I recently had set up a little photo shoot with my friends Said the Whale at their recording studio. Let me tell you it was a pleasure. I obviously walked in on them all wearing the lovely t-shirts inspired by their very own music because they wouldn’t leave home without them. After seeing this I decided not to disturb them and catch them in their natural habitat as you can very well tell by the pictures I took below. What band doesn’t perform to their full intensity while in the pre-production stages of creating their album (they don’t actually start recording the album until Monday)?

All seriousness aside, I’m joking! For those of you who do know the band you might notice that they are all playing the wrong instruments! They just felt like having a little fun while I was taking some photos for the website and our blog. I’d like to thank them for being such a blast and for taking part in this new endeavor. So SUBSCRIBE BEFORE MARCH 1, ’09 or you won’t be able to get your hands on a Said the Whale t-shirt, not to mention the FREE EP (short CD) we are throwing in with the package.
Be on the lookout for their new album because it’s in the works!
Thanks
Colin
Great Music and Great Reviews
We here at Abandon T-Shirts love great music. We wanted to draw some attention to, what we think, is the finest online publication of live indie music and concert reviews.
Ronatron.net is not only a great resource for concert and album reviews, but also a great place to discover new music. They have been great friends to us here at Abandon T-Shirts and we are happy to let the world know about them if they don’t already. Another bonus is the recent review (from Christmas) of some of our feature bands; Said the Whale and Hey Ocean! These bands played a great all-ages show at the Cambrian Hall with a great lineup of bands, which included Dan Mangan and Hannah Georgas. Check out the review of the concert here.

This photo was poached from Ronatron.net and was taken by Alex Ramon.
Enjoy the music!

Stevo Introduces Himself
Attention Blog Nation,
Steve here, and like my cousin’s post below, I too am breaking my blog cherry. I’m sure there’s some cool word for your first post, but since I don’t know it I’ll refer to this event as poppin’ my bloggy (how’s that? think it will catch on?).
I am second in command and the other puzzle piece in the world of Abandon T-Shirts. Colin and I have been forced to hang out due to genetics and the fact our Mom’s are sisters. Over the years we have moved past the genetics and become great friends (and excellent beer drinkers). Many of those pint downing sessions were spent trying to come up with an idea that would enable us to work for ourselves and create something we, and others, could be passionate about. We found that we spent most of our time at concerts, art shows and other cultural events. It became obvious that our passion was for the artistic expression found in music, art and design, and from there the idea of Abandon grew.

A few hard working months, a bunch of late nights, and too many meals at the best hole in the wall restaurant in Vancouver to count (Hawkers Delight on Main and 26th), and we’re un-freakin-believeably happy that the site is now up and running. Check out the site www.abandontshirts.com, sign yourself up for a subscription and be the envy of all your friends. We welcome all your feedback so feel free to comment on the blog, sign up for our mailing list, or even drop us an e-mail at info@abandontshirts.com.
Cheers,
Steve
An introduction from Colin Moore
Hey bloggers!
I’m Colin, brainchild behind this wonderful concept we call Abandon T-Shirts! I came up with the idea for lyrically inspired t-shirts by subscription while eating goldfish crackers! You know the small ones with lots of cheese flavor (original) and not those stupid JUMBO ones that tend to disappoint me. But ya, who doesn’t think of a great idea like this when eating such a wonderful snack?

I got to work right away. You see I am a freelance illustrator in this wonderful city of Vancouver and do lots of work with local talented bands doing concert posters and album covers. So I called up the ones I know to get the ball rollin’, the first one that I do call is Said the Whale. These guys are amazing, so if you haven’t heard of them already I suggest that you check them out. Not just because they are our FIRST feature band but because of the beautiful noise that they produce!
Anyways the rest is history in the making! We’ve got bands to talk to, orders to fill, contests to throw, t-shirts to design and you name it when it comes to running a business! I just wanted to say hello and I will be kicking around to hear all the feedback I can take in at once. Enjoy the visuals and the music!
Oh and this is my first official blog post anywhere, so take it easy on me. I am new to this game.
Thanks
Colin
Launch!!
We are pleased to announce that AbandonTShirts.com is now officially launched!
An idea that popped into our heads and rapidly became a reality is now ready for your enjoyment. The speed in which it was launched can be attributed to our passion for music and our desire to help the world become collectively better at wearing t-shirts!
This new and exciting concept is nowhere near fully developed. This blog will be your opportunity to give us your feedback. Let us know what you think of our product, website, concept and anything else you care to share. We will be posting contests, band bios, concert dates, general rants and anything else we can dream up that relates to music, t-shirts and occasionally anything else on our minds!
Thank you for stopping by,
Colin and Steve
